Field Trip to Chinatown

The first place I visited was the jamek mosque. This mosque is where Kuala Lumpur started back in 1909. The jamek mosque is the oldest mosque of Kuala Lumpur. It was built in triangular piece of land because nobody wanted to build on a triangular piece of land as they would get more money out of a rectangular piece of land. So the mosques and the temples were built on what was left, triangular pieces of land. Kuala Lumpur was then divided into two parts, at the right of the mosque were all the governmental buildings while at the left of the mosque were the commercial buildings. the decorations in the mosque were symmetrical, repetitive but also sober. On the small minarets of the mosque were croissant moons, the symbol of Islam. In the mosque men were doing their ablutions and praying, it seemed calm and serious.

On the way to the Hindu temple we passed by several stands of flowers, they were offerings for the gods. The Sri. Maha Mariamman Temple was built in 1873. It was dedicat
ed to the goddess Mariamman. Compared to the mosque the temple was colorful, animated and full of decorations. We saw several people, they were praying, putting Bindi on their forehead, lighting up candles and placing offerings over the statues of the gods. The statues are sacred symbols, people worship them as if they were human. On the walls were huge paintings of divinities.

We then went to the Chinese Temple, the Guan Di temple. Which is actually a Cantonese Temple dedicated to Guan Di, God of the war and of Literature. At the entrance was a small step, to prevent the bad spirits from coming in. The temple was mostly in red and golden with a lot of dragons drawn and sculpted. near the enscence , that we could strongly smell, were fruits, drinks, fake money and all sorts of things that could be helpful to an ancestor during its second life. there were a lot of people in the temple, more than in the Hindu temple, it was animated as well. People also came here to have their fortune told.

Overall all three of these places of worship were very interesting. All of them have a place of worship and worship an an cestor or God(s). I particularly liked the Hindu temple, because of the atmosphere, it was animated but at the same time calm and seren.

This reading is more tthan interesting, its actually pasionnating. It's incredible to get an explanation of "Aushwitz" from people who lived there and who still remember how it was and how it felt like. However, what they lived, I find it terrifying and unfair. I really wonder how human beings could do such horrible things to each other.

opposites

Me and my partner picked these two pictures because they are opposites. The picture at the left shows something that grows on the ground, the plant, and is green. While the sky is far up, blue and white. The picture at my right shows two different ecosystems, the city with the petronas towers and nature. it is a good exemple of two opposites.

Do I agree?

If you disagree with a rule, law, or public policy, it is better to remain silent than to speak out and risk punishment.
Last time I hqve been asked this question in class, I said yes. Today, now that I have read the beginning of "The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas", I realize that some people really don't have a choice and can't stand up for themselves. Today, I say NO. No, for letting people suffer from our laziness. No, for watching people doing things they are not supposed to do and letting them, because we're scared, scared of what is going to happen if we do take a stand. Some people don't have a choice, while we do, this is why we should never stay arms crossed when we have the possibility to help others, who's choices was made for them. One single voice could make a big difference.

What Is A Good Life?

To me a good life is a life full of love and hope. I certainly could say that a good life is too having a lot of money. Though what is the point of that if you don't have anybody to share it with? Personnaly I would like to accomplish something good in life, not particularly something big, just something that would allow me to be connected with other people, that would allow us to reach a goal together and that would allow us to make a difference. I am sure that I am on earth for something. A good and accomplished life for me would be to find out what's the point of me being here.

The protagonist of my book

Her name is Andrea but every one calls her Andy, she is ten years old and has a "Sylivan family spotted rabbit Radish." (p.7) She is tall and she's got fairly short hair:"I'm growing my hair but it's taking forever. It hasn't got near my shoulders yet." (p.16). Andrea seems to me like the kind of kid who can never make a choice. I wouldn't call her a complicated child but she doesn't seem to make much effort for this whole living-in-two-different-houses buisness. She likes soda ice-creams that her dad sometimes buys her, mulberries from the mulberry tree there was in the Mulberry cottage (the house she used to live in with her mom and dad and Radish) , and she also enjoys playing with Radish.

What is the Journey in my book so far?

"I wished enough times that mom and dad and I could be together again in Mulberry cottage it hasn't happened yet." (p.22) This quote of the book I beleive explains the journey of the book as for now the book is mostly about the fact that Andrea's parents are divorced, they are both remaried. Andrea had to leave from her beautiful house which was the "Mulberry Cottage", a place where she really felt home. Now all Andrea really wishes is to live in the Mulbery cottage with her mom and dad again.
